Install the Orca database editor

Use the Orca database editor to create the transform file. The Orca database editor is a table-editing tool available in the Windows Installer SDK that can be used to edit .msi files.

The Orca database editor is available from Microsoft as part of the Windows Server 2003 R2 Platform SDK (available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0baf2b35-c656-4969-ace8-e4c0c0716adb&DisplayLang=en). Once the Windows Server 2003 R2 Platform SDK is installed, the Orca database editor installation program (orca.msi) is available in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2\Bin.

The Orca database editor installation program is also available as a free, individual download from various other Web sites.

We recommend that you install the Orca database editor on the domain controller, for security purposes. However, it can be installed on any machine on the network. If you use another machine, you may wish to copy the .msi you intend to edit, for example, the ICUserApps.msi, to this machine also.

For an overview of how to use Orca, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255905.
