Internet connection

The Internet connection must meet the following requirements:

• Speed rating - Both the download and the upload speeds must be sufficient for receipt and transmission of RTP (voice) packets for the assigned codec of the IP telephone (G.711=64 kbit/sec, G.729=8 kbit/sec, G.726=16, 24, 32, or 40 kbit/sec)

  Important!

  The Internet connection of the remote agent network must also support the additional bandwidth requirements of other necessary activities. Such activities can include file transfers, e-mail synchronization (including attachments), client software communications with corporate servers, web-based applications on the corporate network, and so on.

• Latency - Audio quality of VoIP communications degrades with latency values greater than 150 milliseconds

• Consistency - The Internet connection must not experience consistently recurring service outages.
