Configure Switchover Servers

This dialog appears if you selected the Switchover Service option on the Select IC Optional Components dialog, or Options if you are re-running IC Setup Assistant.

The Configure Switchover Servers dialogs configure the required Switchover system parameters. If you wish to further customize the Switchover system, you can set additional server parameters in Interaction Administrator. See the CIC Automated Switchover System in the Technical Reference Documents section of the PureConnect Documentation Library.

Configure the role that this CIC Server performs for Switchover.

Switchover server requirements

You must have two identically configured CIC Servers . For detailed requirements, see the CIC Automated Switchover System technical reference.

Install Switchover in new installations

Complete CIC Server installation for the CIC Server that will be the initial active server. When you have completed running IC Setup Assistant on the initial active server, we recommend that you view and print the report that Setup Assistant generates, showing the configuration options you selected.
Repeat the procedure on the CIC Server that will be the initial backup server. When you run IC Setup Assistant on the initial backup server, make sure that you select the identical configuration options you selected for the initial active server. Use the report generated on the initial active server to verify your selections on the initial backup server.

Follow the instructions in the CIC Automated Switchover System technical reference for installing Switchover in a new installation.

Note: CIC should not be started on each CIC Server until IC Setup Assistant is completed on both servers.

Switchover A

Name of switchover B server

If you selected this CIC Server as the initial active server or “Switchover A”, enter the machine name of the initial backup server, which will be designated as “Switchover B”.

The backup server name should be different than active server name. Do not enter the IP address or the fully qualified domain name.

The entry in this field populates the required “SwitchoverServer B” server parameter in Interaction Administrator.

Switchover B

Name of switchover A server

If you selected this CIC Server as the initial backup server or “Switchover B”, enter the machine name of the initial active server, which will be designated as “Switchover A”.

The active server name should be different than backup server name. Do not enter the IP address or the fully qualified domain name.

The entry in this field populates the required “SwitchoverServer A” server parameter in Interaction Administrator.

Confirm the Switchover server configuration

After running IC Setup Assistant on both the initial active and backup servers (for example, "CICServer1" and "CICServer2"), the SwitchoverServer A and B server parameters would be configured like this:

On CICServer1:

SwitchoverServer A = CICServer1

SwitchoverServer B = CICServer2

On CICServer2:

SwitchoverServer A = CICServer1

SwitchoverServer B = CICServer2

If the SwitchoverServer A and B server parameters are not set correctly, the Switchover system will get confused about which server is the active server and which one is the backup server, and CIC will not start successfully.

Switchover and Server Group certificates/private keys

Switchover pairs require identical Server Group certificate and private keys to successfully connect to remote subsystems. Make sure to fill out the Server Group Certificate and Private Key dialogs when they appear in Setup Assistant to:

Select the appropriate certificate management option for this CIC Server's role in the Switchover pair.
If appropriate, follow the procedure to securely copy the Server Group certificate and private key files from the active server to backup server using a USB key (or other temporary storage media that you have full control over).

IC Survey Location: This information may be included in the IC Survey file. If so, the selection/value will appear in this dialog. You can review the contents of the IC Survey file by selecting View Survey in the Load IC Survey File dialog or opening it in a Pre-Install survey in the IC Survey system.
