Checking In a Process

Checking in a process lets several people collaborate on the process design. It stores the process in IPA Designer's version control repository but does not remove it from your IPA workspace. While a process is checked in, a version is saved that can be viewed but not edited until it is checked out. It is available for you or other users to check out and edit. To edit a process that has been checked in, see Checking out a process.

Checking in a process is different from saving a process, which IPA Designer does automatically. You only need to check in a process if you want other people to be able to view or work from your current version of its design.

To check in a process:

  • Open the Process menu and click Check In.

Notice that the process is still listed in IPA's process list. On the IPA toolbar, Check Out is now active. You can view the process but cannot change it unless you first check it out.

IPA Designer automatically checks in a process on publication.

Tip: When you only want to save changes to a process for subsequent editing on your computer, save the process instead of checking it in. That saves the current version of the process with your changes.

Each time you check in a process, IPA Designer keeps a separate version of the process for that check-in. Check in the process only when you want to share the current version of the process design with other people.
