CIC patches

  • Patches are a feature of the distribution model.

  • A patch is a package of Engineering Specials (bug fixes only) created for a CIC 20## R# release, cumulative of previous patches.

  • Patches are released every two weeks for the current and previous releases, and as needed for prior releases.

  • CIC 2015 R1 Patch1 and later patch components are .msp files.

Patch Process Support

The original, recommended approach is to apply the latest patch in its entirety after installing a release. For example, download and apply all CIC 2016 R1 Patch1 components after installing CIC 2016 R1, following the instructions to apply the latest patch.

However, in an effort to simplify the patch process, we now allow devices within an organization to be on different patch versions within the same release. This minimizes the patch process effort as you only need to apply patches to devices that require a specific fix contained in a patch. See PureConnect Customer Care KB article Q145030232900218 for the complete patch process support statement.

To assist in deciding which patch installs to run, the Summary file associated with each patch includes a "Device/Install Hint" field and name after each SCR.

The Device Install Hint appendix lists all of the names and the corresponding installation programs required for each entry, so you know which installs are required for each fix.
