Overview of Dynamic Details

Dynamic details uniquely identify each process instance or work item so that it can be saved, searched for, located in the CIC Client, and retrieved. Dynamic details are typically a group of variables associated with a process. You can use any variable types except for Date, Date Time, and Time.

Dynamic details serve as a high-level description of each process or work item. The dynamic details for a process or work item should include variables that distinguish it from others of the same type. At a glance, process users should be able to identify a process instance by looking at its dynamic details. Dynamic details become read-only, retaining their variables’ last-saved values after a process instance completes.

IPA uses a work item's dynamic details to create the value that the CIC Client displays in the Description column of My Work Items.

Note: From the CIC Client's process search screen, a user can search for any variable used in dynamic details.
