TFTP Server

The CIC Server install automatically installs the necessary TFTP server component files and configures the default configuration required for the TFTP server.

When you select this option in Select IC Optional Components, Setup Assistant enables the TFTP server by changing its Service Startup Type from Manual to Automatic. Select this option if you plan to:

  • Configure Interaction SIP Station phones

  • Configure unmanaged Polycom phones. (Do not select this option if you plan to implement managed Polycom phones).

  • Perform gateway programming.

Interaction SIP Station phones

Interaction SIP Station phones must be implemented as managed IP phones.

Note: In IC 3.0 SU 10 (NPT) and later, Interaction SIP Station uses version 1.2.2 firmware. With version 1.2.2 firmware, Interaction SIP Station obtains its firmware and configuration via HTTP instead of TFTP, allowing for a much faster upgrade process. However, Interaction SIP Station still uses the TFTP server in the following situations: 1) When initially upgrading from version 1.0.1 firmware to version 1.2.2 firmware, 2) When an error occurs during a firmware upgrade process (recovery mode).

Note: In CIC 4.0 GA through SU6 and CIC 2015 R1 and later, Interaction SIP Station obtains its firmware and configuration via HTTP. However, Interaction SIP Station uses the TFTP server when an error occurs during a firmware upgrade process (recovery mode).

All sites with Interaction SIP Station phones should perform the following procedures to configure the TFTP server:

  • Select the TFTP server on this screen to enable the TFTP server on the CIC Server.

  • (Switchover) If your implementation includes a Switchover pair, copy the firmware file to the TFTP root directory after applying a CIC patch or ES. For instructions, see CIC Managed IP Phones Administrator's Guide in the Technical Reference Documents section of the PureConnect Documentation Library.

Unmanaged Polycom phones

CIC provides a built-in TFTP server for storing unmanaged Polycom phone configuration files. When a Polycom phone is booted, it downloads its configuration files from the TFTP root directory. Polycom phones also write log files to this TFTP directory (if the TFTP server is configured to accept write operations).

The TFTP server does not directly facilitate the creation or editing of Polycom phone configuration files.  The TFTP root directory is available only via the network as a shared folder or by direct access to the CIC server.

For more information, see Configuration of CIC Phone Features for Polycom Phones in the Technical Reference Documents section of the PureConnect Documentation Library.
